Join the ONE Life Sciences Network and Ernst van Orsouw, Chief Executive Officer of Roslin Technologies Limited, to explore the commercialisation journey of one of Scotland’s most exciting biotech firms from start-up to global market leader.
Roslin Technology’s world leading animal stem cell lines are currently shipped to cultivated protein producers across all corners of the globe. Cultivated protein is meat or seafood grown directly from cells without the need to raise animals. Roslin Tech’s cells can self-renew forever and can differentiate into any tissue, including muscle and fat – the necessary constituents for a successful cultivated protein industry. Roslin Tech is backed by the University of Edinburgh.
The session will include a presentation, Q&A, an update on transformational action and investment in the region and finish with networking. Breakfast will be provided.
The ONE Life Sciences network brings together people from the academic, clinical, commercial and research community to focus on collaborative innovation and commercialisation. Its quarterly meetings deliver high-quality insights into sector growth and market related topics.

Founded in 2016 to maximise the commercial opportunities from the University of Edinburgh’s vet school and Roslin Institute - famous for “Dolly the Sheep” Roslin Technologies has grown and expanded into an ambitious company with global reach delivering disruptive biotechnologies for the alternative protein sector.
By 2050, when the global population is forecast to approach 9.5 billion, our food system will require 50% more protein than we produce today. To deliver this, the world will need to look to new, disruptive, technologies to feed the population without further damaging the planet. The new and rapidly developing “cultivated” meat and seafood industry will be key to shaping future protein production and the necessary transition to a more sustainable global food system. To deliver this transition in cost effective and timely way, there is a need, today, for more effective and efficient building blocks for cultivated proteins – the cells themselves.
Ernst van Orsouw joined Roslin Technologies as Chief Executive Officer in 2021, to accelerate the commercialisation of their solutions and focus research and development on the key challenges of the sector including cost reduction and process scale-up. Ernst has over 15 years’ experience in agribusiness, initially at Boston Consulting Group and more recently as Global Director of Marketing and Strategy at the porcine division of Genus PLC, the global leader in livestock genetics for pork, beef and dairy.
