Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926 - 2022
Following the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Sir Ian Wood KT GBE, chair of Opportunity North East, said:
"The passing of Her Majesty the Queen is a profoundly sad moment for her family and people around the world. She was a truly exceptional lady who transcended politics conducting herself with grace, dignity and fervour throughout seven decades of dedicated service. Her unwavering dedication to service and duty have inspired many, myself included.
"The Queen’s affinity to the North East of Scotland was well known and it is hopefully a source of comfort to her close friends and family that she spent her last days in the peaceful surroundings of Balmoral Castle.
“I personally have some very happy memories of my few meetings with the Queen. A particular highlight was a half hour with just the two of us when I became a Knight Thistle in Scotland. She couldn’t have been more gracious in putting me at ease.
"On behalf of Opportunity North East, we extend our sincere condolences to the Royal Family and join the country in a period of mourning and reflection of her remarkable reign.”
