A leading role in the energy transition
North east Scotland is developing a leading role in delivering the energy transition in response to the climate emergency and delivering solutions to achieve net-zero. The region aims to secure a strong economic future built on offshore wind, hydrogen, carbon capture usage and storage (CCUS) alongside oil and gas.
The skills and experience developed over five decades are critical to the delivery of net-zero ambitions. The application of the oil and gas industry know-how to energy transition is already happening. And the sector is committed to playing an even more significant role in developing and delivering low carbon and net zero energy solutions.
The opportunity is to create a significant global integrated energy cluster in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire so that low carbon solutions are developed, deployed and manufactured here. This approach will help anchor a broad energy supply chain, create and secure high value jobs, drive export growth and help deliver the UK and Scotland’s net zero targets.
One of the transformational projects that support the energy transition ambition is the development of an Energy Transition Zone (ETZ). The ETZ will provide the physical infrastructure and collaborative environment to fast track investment and attract and grow businesses to develop and commercialise new technology, particularly in the development and deployment of offshore wind, hydrogen and CCUS.
