OPPORTUNITY NORTH EAST – TOURISM
Opportunity North East (ONE) supports VisitAberdeenshire, the city and region’s new destination management organisation, which should play an important role in transforming and diversifying our region’s economy.

In 2016, ONE is contributing £795,000 to maximise the impact of this new tourism body, which saw the merger of VisitAberdeen, Visit Royal Deeside and Banffshire Coast. This includes improving our tourism assets, encouraging industry collaboration and promoting the region to new Scottish, UK and international visitors. We share the objective of growing annual visitor spending in North East Scotland from £340 million to £500 million by 2020.

There are significant natural and cultural assets in the region, from the coastline and national park to golf courses, castles, heritage, food, whisky and business tourism. These can all be promoted to secure a greater share of Scotland’s leisure tourism market, in tandem with the new Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre investment, which will see the venue move in 2019 to a new location with 48,500 sqm of exhibition, conference and meeting space and a 12,500 capacity arena. There is also the exciting possibility of significant cruise ship visits with the new Aberdeen Harbour development.

VisitAberdeenshire has its own board, an established governance structure and strong leadership team. ONE’s tourism priorities are delivered via VisitAberdeenshire and ONE is represented on VisitAberdeenshire’s board.
