Opportunity North East (ONE) aims to accelerate the creation of digital businesses in North East Scotland, help the region’s key industries embrace digital solutions to achieve growth, and enhance the entrepreneurial environment to support company creation and scale-up.

Digital has a significant role to play in achieving the long-term transformation of the North East’s economy. Building a vibrant digital cluster in the region will help companies across all sectors to transform their businesses to make them more competitive and productive.

The ONE Digital & Entrepreneurship Board was established in August 2017 in recognition of the opportunity to grow the sector with a focus on industrial digital. Opportunity North East is investing to create the ecosystem to make this happen.  Working with industry and partners, we will:

  • Deliver the support required for digital company creation, scale up and growth, providing access to experts and experienced digital entrepreneurs, as well as to potential customers.
  • Help individuals from across different business sectors to understand the role of digital within their business to support business transformation.
  • Seek to increase the number of entrepreneurial businesses with significant scale and international reach to meet the growing demand for people with the knowledge and skills to implement digital solutions across all sectors of the economy.

A £1.5million investment is underway to create a dedicated tech hub for digital and entrepreneurship activity in Aberdeen city centre, led by private sector economic development body Opportunity North East (ONE) in partnership with the UK’s leading digital tech incubator CodeBase and Robert Gordon University (RGU).

The 20,000 square foot hub will provide the base for the recently formed ONE CodeBase partnership and for RGU’s new entrepreneurship accelerator programme, announced in May, which will fund and support teams of entrepreneurial students, staff and recent alumni in creating new businesses. RGU also plans to deliver its innovation programme activities from the Hub.
