New and early-stage food and drink businesses are being encouraged to accelerate their growth by applying for a sector-specific business growth programme (BGP) developed for North East Scotland’s food and drink industry.
Opportunity North East is seeking to appoint a Food Hub Director, who will lead on the development and delivery of the Food Hub innovation project, including the development of the detailed £20 million business case and approval for £10 million capital funding via the Aberdeen City Region Deal.
The achievements of the entrepreneurial food and drink community, spanning large and small companies, are set to be celebrated with the launch of the North East Scotland Food & Drink Awards 2019.

The adoption of digital technologies could unlock £56bn for the food and drink manufacturing industry, according to the UK industry-led Made Smarter Review in 2017.

The Legends of the Garioch experience is a celebration of Aberdeenshire’s larder and the story it plays within over 220 years of heritage at Glen Garioch. The experience delves into the history of the brand and the distillery’s Oldmeldrum home, exploring the story of Legends past and present. Launched in October 2017, the experience incorporates delicacies and traditions showcasing many quality producers from the region. This experience concludes with a sensory adventure of flavour with a specially designed regional whisky pairing menu specially prepared by the kitchen team at Meldrum House, Country Hotel and Golf Club. This experience won the 2018 North East Scotland Food & Drink Award for the Best Food & Drink Tourism Experience.

Thirteen food and drink producers from across the North East of Scotland have been selected for an ambitious business support programme that aims to accelerate growth within the sector.
The businesses in Opportunity North East’s (ONE) 2018 food and drink business growth programme (BGP) have started an intensive five months of expert workshops, best practice visits and mentoring. Led by ONE’s Food, Drink & Agriculture team, the programme will enable the businesses to develop focused growth plans.
Funding for private sector economic development body Opportunity North East (ONE) is being more than doubled and extended to 10 years to support action and investment in pursuing ONE’s renaissance strategy for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, one of the most productive regional economies in the UK.
The move will enable ONE to increase the scope of its action and extend its planning horizon to 10 years, delivering ambitious development projects within the region’s key sectors to maximise growth opportunities.
Eleven businesses from the North East are celebrating after being crowned winners at the regions most prestigious food and drink awards, delivered in partnership with Opportunity North East (ONE) and Aberdeenshire Council.
The North East Scotland Food & Drink Awards winners were announced last night at a glittering awards ceremony at the Ardoe House Hotel, Aberdeen. 290 attended the sell-out event, which welcomed journalist and BBC Radio Scotland, Stephen Jardine, as host.
The 12 award categories highlighted the diversity of this ever-growing industry, recognising undisputed talent in innovation, skills development and entrepreneurialism, and celebrating new products in the retail, foodservice and brewing and distilling.
